Neurosurgeon for Newnan, GA Patients
If you’re in Newnan and dealing with ongoing back pain, neck pain, or a diagnosis you want a second set of eyes on, Dr. Larry R. Shannon II provides board-certified neurosurgical care at De Novo Brain & Spine in Stockbridge.
Dr. Shannon is directly involved in each patient’s care, from consultation and diagnosis through treatment planning and follow-up. Newnan patients get a physician who stays with their case, not a rotating team that changes at each visit.
Conditions We Treat
Spine care. Herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and spondylolisthesis make up the bulk of the spine conditions Dr. Shannon evaluates and treats.
Brain care. Comprehensive neurosurgical evaluation for brain conditions, backed by fellowship-level training.
Nerve care. Diagnosis and treatment for sciatica, nerve compression, and other peripheral nerve conditions causing pain, numbness, or weakness.
Dr. Shannon’s Background
Dr. Shannon completed his neurosurgery residency at Rush University Medical Center and a neuro-endovascular fellowship at the University at Buffalo. Frequently Asked Questions
Does De Novo Brain & Spine see patients from Newnan?
Yes. Our office is based in Stockbridge, and we regularly see patients from Newnan and the surrounding Coweta County area, including for second opinion consultations built around a review of prior imaging.
What’s the difference between a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic spine surgeon?
Both treat spine conditions, but a neurosurgeon’s training covers the brain, spine, and nervous system as one connected system. Dr. Shannon is board-certified in neurosurgery, with a practice that’s spine-focused day to day while also covering brain and peripheral nerve conditions.
When does back or neck pain need a neurosurgeon instead of physical therapy?
Most back and neck pain improves with conservative care like physical therapy or medication. A neurosurgical evaluation becomes appropriate when pain persists past several weeks of conservative treatment, radiates into an arm or leg, or comes with numbness or weakness. Sudden or worsening weakness, or any loss of bladder or bowel control, needs urgent evaluation, not a scheduled visit. Dr. Shannon sees Newnan patients to determine whether surgery is warranted or whether nonsurgical care is still the right path.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Shannon?
It depends on your insurance plan. Check with your provider or call our office, and we’ll confirm what’s needed before scheduling.
How do Newnan patients schedule an appointment?
Call (404) 882-3592 or request an appointment online. Patients who’ve already received a surgical recommendation can request a second opinion that includes an imaging review.
